CIBJO introduces the Blue List for responsible jewellery supply-chain terminology
CIBJOThe committee seeks clearer use of terms such as sustainable, responsible and ethical.
The announcement
CIBJO introduced the Blue List at its Vicenza congress on 7 September 2026. Its Jewellery Supply Chain Committee presented a shared terminology reference intended to reduce ambiguity in communication with customers. The image shows that committee’s meeting. A terminology guide should not be confused with certification of an individual jewel.
JEWEL DAILY perspective
JEWEL DAILY sees value in common language only when it connects to evidence. A claim of responsibility still needs a named standard, a defined part of the supply chain, a verifier and a time period. Retail explanations can replace broad adjectives with specific facts about metal origin, supplier review or disclosed improvements. This makes comparison easier and avoids turning one limited action into a conclusion about the entire chain.
