Gold jewellery in Q1: lower weight, higher spending

Global jewellery demand fell by weight while spending increased in Q1. The report compares China, India and other markets, including the relative resilience of lighter hard-pure-gold products and the role of high-end heritage craftsmanship.

What the report says

World Gold Council reports Q1 2026 gold-jewellery demand of about 299.7 tonnes, down 23% year on year, while demand value reached approximately US$47 billion, up 31%. The measures describe different dimensions.

JEWEL DAILY perspective

Our reading: lower purchased weight does not mean every buyer has cut their budget. Separate metal-price effects from product mix and examine weight, technique and purpose within comparable spending bands.

Designers can test ways to preserve visual presence through structure, wire, texture and component combinations, while checking comfort and durability. Quarterly demand figures provide context, not a substitute for observing actual customers.
