Jade and opal: connecting terminology across markets

CIBJO · 报告原始配图Image · CIBJO

The report previews jade and opal references developed by expert groups. Its jade section links Chinese trade names with Western terminology. A new jewellery academy pairs laboratory teaching with workshops and placements alongside master artisans.

What the report says

CIBJO previews jade and opal guides, including links between Chinese trade names and Western terminology. It also describes an academy combining classroom study, laboratory training and placements with artisans.

JEWEL DAILY perspective

Our reading: multilingual jade descriptions should retain familiar Chinese names while explaining the material behind them. Cultural vocabulary and technical identification serve different purposes; compressing every use of jade into one unexplained term loses useful distinctions.

Training can begin with an actual label, report and object. Ask learners to identify which statements come from testing and which from trade usage, then practise explaining the difference to a customer.
